Negombo sits just north of Colombo airport, making it an ideal first or last stop on a Sri Lankan journey, and one that rewards a longer stay than most travellers initially expect. Its colonial-Dutch canal network, Catholic fishing villages, and fresh-seafood culture offer a distinct coastal character from the island’s southern shores. The lagoon at sunset, filled with traditional fishing boats, is one of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful sights.
