Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks, a colossal granite monolith rising 200 metres above the surrounding jungle, crowned by the ruins of a 5th-century royal palace fortress. The climb to the summit passes cloud maidens frescoes sheltered within rock alcoves and a gateway flanked by lion paws, before revealing panoramic views across the Cultural Triangle. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sigiriya is a centrepiece of any Sri Lankan journey.
